Saturday night's alright for racing

The Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship will stage a revolutionary night race event at Blyton (near Gainsborough in North Lincolnshire) on Saturday night (June 12) as the third of this year's eight events breaks new ground by running the first night time race in the championship's 34-year history.
The night race, which will also be broadcast live on Motors TV will start at 1530 on Saturday afternoon with the event due to finish just before midnight. The track will be floodlit as night falls and the novelty of racing into hours of darkness has created additional interest and excitement among competitors. "We decided to run a race in daylight and night time following requests from drivers for something different and I'm pleased that racers are now responding by entering the event. We have a few drivers making their first appearance of the year, several new competitors coming to try Rallycross for the first time and at least one racer coming from Belgium specially for this race," said British championship promoter Amy Doran.
After two events the championship is led by leading Julian Godfrey (Heathfield). Also the points leader in the SuperModified (two-wheel drive) class, Godfrey has finished strongly in both events while the championship favourites in the Supercar category have each had problems in one or other of the events.
